Preparation
- Activate the yeast by combining warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl, then let it sit until foamy.
- Mix in flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture, then knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
First Rise
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping
- Gently deflate the risen dough and divide it into five equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a round ball and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Second Rise
- Cover the shaped dough balls and let them rise again for another 30 minutes.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the bread bowls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Once baked, let them cool before carefully slicing off the top and hollowing out the inside to create the bowl.
Notes
For extra flavor, brush the tops of the bread bowls with an egg wash before baking. You can also sprinkle with sesame seeds or herbs for added texture and taste. These bread bowls are best served fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for a day or two.
