Preparation
- Wash the fresh spinach thoroughly, then blanch it in boiling water for 1-2 minutes until wilted; immediately transfer to an ice bath to stop cooking.
- Drain the blanched spinach well, squeezing out as much excess water as possible, then finely chop it.
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped spinach, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing until fully incorporated.
Forming and Cooking
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and carefully shape each portion into a 5-inch diameter ball, ensuring they are compact and firm.
- If desired, roll each spinach ball in breadcrumbs for an even coating; lightly drizzle with olive oil if baking.
- Bake the spinach balls in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through, turning once halfway if needed.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the spinach mixture. These spinach balls can also be pan-fried or air-fried for a crispier exterior.
