  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt

Coating Ingredients (Optional)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Equipment

  • large pot
  • large bowl
  • baking sheet
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash the fresh spinach thoroughly, then blanch it in boiling water for 1-2 minutes until wilted; immediately transfer to an ice bath to stop cooking.
  2. Drain the blanched spinach well, squeezing out as much excess water as possible, then finely chop it.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the chopped spinach, ricotta cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, mixing until fully incorporated.
Forming and Cooking
  1. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and carefully shape each portion into a 5-inch diameter ball, ensuring they are compact and firm.
  2. If desired, roll each spinach ball in breadcrumbs for an even coating; lightly drizzle with olive oil if baking.
  3. Bake the spinach balls in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through, turning once halfway if needed.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the spinach mixture. These spinach balls can also be pan-fried or air-fried for a crispier exterior.
