Ingredients

Slider Ingredients
  • 1/2 pound deli or shaved ham
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 9 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound ground beef (or plant-based alternative)
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon everything bagel seasoning or sesame seeds
Optional Toppings
  • pickles sliced
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • lettuce
  • tomato
Note
  • Note: You can skip the step of forming hamburger patties and instead crumble the cooked and seasoned ground beef mixture over the bottom buns before adding the cheese. This would also save time and effort without sacrificing flavor.

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Large skillet
  • Serrated knife
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Small bowl
  • Aluminum foil

Method

Burger Patties
  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  2. Form the meat mixture into 12 small, thin patties, roughly the size of your Hawaiian rolls. Place patties on a plate and set aside.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned and cooked through. Once cooked, transfer the patties to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess grease.
Assemble Sliders
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Use a serrated knife to carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected.
  2. Place the bottom halves of the rolls in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer 6 slices of sharp cheddar cheese over the bottom buns.
  3. Arrange the cooked burger patties evenly over the cheese. If using, add a layer of shaved ham over the burger patties.
  4. Top the patties with the remaining 3 slices of sharp cheddar cheese, then place the top halves of the Hawaiian rolls over the cheese.
Prepare Topping & Bake
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and Dijon mustard. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the slider buns.
  2. Sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning (or sesame seeds) evenly over the buttered rolls.
  3. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 15 minutes. This allows the cheese to melt and the buns to warm.
  4. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the tops of the rolls are golden brown and slightly crispy.
Serve
  1. Remove from the oven, let cool for a few minutes, then slice into individual sliders. Serve immediately with your favorite optional toppings.

Notes

For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the butter mixture before brushing on the rolls. These sliders are highly customizable – feel free to experiment with different cheeses, toppings, or even a different type of ground meat!
