Preparation
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then whisk in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix, as a few lumps are fine.
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions and lightly grease it if necessary.
Cooking
- Pour about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of batter onto the hot waffle iron, depending on its size.
- Close the lid and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle is golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove the cooked waffle and repeat with the remaining batter.
Serving
- Serve the Belgian waffles immediately with your favorite toppings like syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.
Notes
For extra fluffy waffles, separate the egg and whip the egg white into stiff peaks before folding it into the batter at the very end. Do not overmix the batter, as this can lead to tough waffles.
