Preparation

- In a large bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, chopped onion, and chopped celery.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken or vegetable broth, beaten eggs, melted butter, dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- Pour the wet ingredients over the cornbread mixture and mix until just combined, ensuring all cornbread is moistened.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
Baking
- Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dressing is set in the center.
- Let the dressing rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow it to firm up slightly.
Notes
For extra flavor, sauté the onion and celery before adding them to the cornbread mixture. To prevent a dry dressing, do not overbake; cover with foil if the top browns too quickly.
