Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 tsp salt
Filling
  • 3 cups green cabbage finely shredded
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium carrot grated
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger grated
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Large pot or steamer or frying pan

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. Combine flour, water, and salt in a mixing bowl; knead until a smooth and elastic dough forms. Cover the dough and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Make the Filling
  1. In a large bowl, mix the shredded cabbage, chopped onion, grated carrot, and ginger. Add soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper, then thoroughly combine.
Assemble Dumplings
  1. Roll the rested dough into a thin sheet and cut out small, round wrappers. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each wrapper, then fold and crimp the edges to seal and form the dumpling shape.
Cook the Dumplings
  1. Boil, steam, or pan-fry the dumplings until they are cooked through and the wrappers are tender. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

Feel free to add minced garlic or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the filling for extra flavor. These dumplings are delicious served with a soy-ginger dipping sauce.
