Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • box grater
  • clean kitchen towel or paper towels
  • medium bowl
  • large non-stick skillet

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. Peel the potatoes and grate them using the large holes of a box grater. Thoroughly rinse the grated potatoes under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, squeeze out as much water as possible from the grated potatoes. This step is crucial for crispy hash browns.
  3. In a medium bowl, toss the dried grated potatoes with salt and pepper until evenly distributed. Make sure the seasoning is well incorporated.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the potato mixture and press it down firmly to form a uniform layer.
  5. Cook for 8-10 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the hash browns to ensure both sides are cooked evenly.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the potato mixture. Serve immediately for the best crispy texture.
