Preparation
- Peel and cut the potatoes into 1-inch cubes, then place them in a large pot and cover with cold water by about an inch. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are very tender when pierced with a fork (about 15-20 minutes).
- While the potatoes are cooking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small skillet over medium heat, then add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Once the potatoes are tender, drain them thoroughly and return them to the empty pot. Mash the potatoes with a potato masher or fork until smooth, breaking up any large lumps.
- Add the sautéed garlic, remaining butter, milk or cream, salt, and pepper to the mashed potatoes. Stir everything together until well combined and creamy, adding more milk if needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as necessary, then serve your delicious garlic mashed potatoes hot as a perfect side dish.
Notes
For the best results, use good quality potatoes like Russet or Yukon Gold. Adjust the amount of garlic to your personal preference, and feel free to add a splash more milk or cream for an extra creamy texture.
