Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, and egg, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- For the filling, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter and drizzle with melted butter.
- Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the filling into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, then let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
For the Glaze
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and softened cream cheese until smooth.
- Once the bars are completely cool, spread the glaze evenly over the top, then cut into squares and serve.
Notes
For extra richness, use full-fat milk and cream cheese. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for a deeper spice flavor. These bars can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or refrigerated for up to a week. They are delightful served warm, so feel free to microwave a bar for a few seconds before enjoying!
