  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the melted butter, milk, and egg, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  5. For the filling, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter and drizzle with melted butter.
  6. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the filling into the batter, creating a marbled effect.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, then let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
For the Glaze
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and softened cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Once the bars are completely cool, spread the glaze evenly over the top, then cut into squares and serve.

Notes

For extra richness, use full-fat milk and cream cheese. You can also add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling for a deeper spice flavor. These bars can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or refrigerated for up to a week. They are delightful served warm, so feel free to microwave a bar for a few seconds before enjoying!
