  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Small bowl
  • Whisk
  • Clean cloth
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking dish

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt, then in a separate bowl, whisk warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
  2. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Filling and Shaping
  1. In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon for the filling.
  2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a 12x8 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  3. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the butter.
  4. Starting from the long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log and pinch the seam to seal it.
  5. Cut the log into three equal pieces, about 4 inches each.
Baking and Icing
  1. Place the cinnamon rolls in a lightly greased baking dish, leaving some space between them.
  2. Cover the dish and let the rolls rise again for 20-30 minutes, or until puffy.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. While the rolls are baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl to make the icing.
  5. Once the cinnamon rolls are out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the icing generously over them.

Notes

For best results, ensure your milk is warm (about 105-115°F or 40-46°C) to activate the yeast properly. Do not overheat, as it can kill the yeast. These cinnamon rolls are best enjoyed warm on the day they are made.
