Dough Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a pinch of sugar; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy to activate the yeast.
- Add the remaining sugar, salt, melted butter, and egg to the yeast mixture and stir well.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
Assembly
- Punch down the risen dough, then roll it into a 12x18 inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle the mixture over the buttered dough.
- Starting from the long edge, tightly roll up the dough and pinch the seam to seal it.
- Cut the roll into 12 equal slices using a sharp knife or dental floss.
Baking
- Place the cinnamon roll slices in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
Frosting
- While the rolls are cooling slightly, beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
- Spread the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve immediately.
Notes
For extra fluffy rolls, ensure your yeast is fresh and your milk is at the correct temperature (105-115°F / 40-46°C). Do not overheat the milk as it will kill the yeast.
