Caramel Sauce Steps
- Combine sugar and water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase heat to medium-high and boil without stirring until the mixture turns an amber color.
- Remove from heat and carefully whisk in warm heavy cream, then whisk in butter and salt until smooth.
- Cool completely before transferring to an airtight container and storing in the refrigerator.
Notes
For best results, do not stir the sugar mixture once it begins to boil. The caramel will thicken further as it cools.
