- Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat, then remove from heat and stir in sugar.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- Combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt in a separate bowl, then gradually add to the wet ingredients.

Variations
- **Classic Chocolate Chip Brownies:** Fold 1 cup of chocolate chips into the brownie batter before baking.
- **Cream Cheese Swirl Brownies:** In a separate bowl, beat 8 ounces softened cream cheese with ¼ cup powdered sugar and 1 egg until smooth. Dollop over brownie batter and swirl with a knife before baking.
- **Mocha Brownies:** Dissolve 1 tablespoon of espresso powder in the melted butter before adding sugar.
- **Peppermint Brownies:** Add ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract to the brownie batter along with the vanilla extract.
- **Nutty Brownies:** Fold 1 cup of chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans work well) into the brownie batter before baking.
Notes
For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them. Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week. Feel free to mix and match variations or invent your own!
