Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup long-grain rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
  • 0.5 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Equipment

  • medium saucepan
  • lid
  • fork

Method

Cooking Instructions
  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until it runs clear, then set it aside.
  2. Melt butter or heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat; sauté onion until translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Stir in the rinsed rice, salt, and pepper; cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly until the rice grains are lightly toasted.
  5. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it stand, still covered, for 5 minutes to allow the rice to fully absorb the liquid and steam.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of saffron threads or a bay leaf to the broth along with the rice. Ensure the lid fits tightly; this is crucial for perfectly cooked, fluffy rice. Do not lift the lid during cooking or the resting period.
