Ingredients

Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water
Olive Oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Whisk
  • Plastic wrap or kitchen towel
  • Pizza stone or baking steel (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Lightly grease a clean bowl with olive oil, place the dough in the bowl, and turn to coat.
Rising
  1. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and place it in a warm spot.
  2. Let the dough rise for 45-60 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
Baking (Optional)
  1. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature it can reach (usually 475-500°F or 245-260°C) with a pizza stone or baking steel inside for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Once risen, gently punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, stretch or roll each portion into your desired pizza crust shape.
  4. Add your favorite toppings and transfer the pizza to the preheated stone or steel using a pizza peel.
  5. Bake for 8-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly charred.

Notes

For best results, use good quality olive oil. If your kitchen is cold, warm your oven slightly (to about 100°F/38°C), turn it off, and then let the dough rise inside.
