  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
Sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Serving
  • cooked rice for serving

Equipment

  • large skillet or wok
  • mixing bowls
  • whisk

Method

Preparation
  1. Toss the sliced beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil, then let it marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, and cornstarch for the sauce.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until browned and cooked through, then remove the beef and set aside.
  2. Add broccoli florets to the same skillet and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp. Add minced garlic and grated ginger and stir-fry for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the broccoli. Pour in the prepared sauce and stir constantly until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
Serving
  1. Serve the Chinese Beef and Broccoli immediately over cooked rice.

Notes

For extra tenderness, you can velvet the beef by adding a pinch of baking soda to the marinade. Adjust the spice level by adding red pepper flakes to the sauce. Serve with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for garnish.
