Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
Topping
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in flour, salt, and olive oil until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 60-90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking sheet.
  2. Gently punch down the risen dough, divide it into 7 equal pieces, and roll each piece into a 6-8 inch long breadstick shape.
  3. Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Finishing Touches
  1. While the breadsticks are still warm, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle with garlic powder and dried oregano.

Notes
