Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4 cups Blackberries
  • 4 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Jars (pint-sized)
  • Ladle
  • Potato masher or fork
  • Funnel (optional)

Method

Preparation
  1. Wash the blackberries thoroughly and lightly mash them with a potato masher or fork.
Cooking the Jam
  1. Combine the mashed blackberries, granulated sugar, and lemon juice in a large, heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, then reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the jam thickens to your desired consistency (about 20-30 minutes).
Storage
  1. Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace, and wipe the rims clean before sealing with lids.
  2. Process the sealed jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure proper sealing and extend shelf life.

Notes

For a smoother jam, strain the mashed blackberries through a fine-mesh sieve to remove seeds before cooking. Always sterilize your jars and lids properly to prevent spoilage and ensure a good seal.
