Ingredients

Dough
  • 1 lb store-bought pizza dough
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
Topping (Optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Sharp knife

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly flour a baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Divide the pizza dough into four equal parts, forming each into a round ball for your bread bowls.
Baking
  1. If desired, whisk an egg with a tablespoon of water for an egg wash, then brush it over the dough balls and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread bowls are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
Finishing
  1. Carefully remove the bread bowls from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack.
  2. Once cool, use a sharp knife to cut a circle in the top of each bread bowl, gently hollowing out the center to create a cavity for your filling.

Notes

For best results, use a quality store-bought pizza dough. The egg wash and sesame seeds are optional but add a nice finish and flavor. These bread bowls are best served fresh with your favorite soup or chili.
