Candy Apples
  • 5 apples such as Granny Smith or Fuji
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • red food coloring a few drops
  • 5 wooden skewers

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • candy thermometer
  • parchment paper
  • baking sheet

Method

Instructions
  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, then insert a wooden skewer into the stem end of each apple.
  2. Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan; cook over medium-high heat until the mixture reaches 300-310°F (149-154°C) on a candy thermometer.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and carefully stir in a few drops of red food coloring until evenly distributed.
  4. Dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, rotating to ensure an even coating, then allow any excess to drip off.
  5. Place the coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them cool completely until the candy shell hardens.

Notes

For best results, make sure your apples are completely dry before dipping, as any moisture can prevent the candy from adhering properly. You can experiment with different food colorings or add flavor extracts like cinnamon or apple pie spice to the candy mixture for variety.
