  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, then let it sit until foamy.
  2. Stir in salt and gradually add flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Baking
  1. Divide the dough in half and shape each piece into a baguette on a lightly floured surface, then transfer them to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  2. Brush the loaves with egg wash, slice diagonally, and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, place a pan of hot water in the bottom of the oven during baking.
