Method
Prepare the Dough
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and a soft dough forms.
Chill and Roll
- Divide the dough in half, flatten each half into a disk, and wrap them in plastic wrap.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 days, to make it easier to handle.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disk of chilled dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
Cut and Bake
- Use Halloween-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the rolled dough.
- Carefully transfer the cut-out cookies to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorate
- Once completely cooled, decorate the cookies with royal icing or buttercream frosting in festive Halloween colors.
- Add Halloween sprinkles, candies, or edible glitter for extra flair.
Notes
For best results, make sure your butter is truly softened to room temperature. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time. Get creative with your cookie cutters and decorations to make these cookies extra spooky and fun for Halloween!
