Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 cups cooked rice for serving
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced for garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish

Equipment

  • medium bowl
  • whisk
  • large skillet or wok

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
Cooking
  1. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then pour the prepared sauce over the beef.
  3. Stir well to coat the beef evenly with the sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
Serving
  1. Serve the Korean ground beef hot over bowls of cooked rice.
  2. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes. You can also add some vegetables like shredded carrots or spinach during the last few minutes of cooking for added nutrients and color.
