Prepare the Creamy Layer
- In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the Cool Whip and powdered sugar until well combined and smooth.
Prepare the Jello Layer
- In a separate bowl, whisk hot water with orange jello until completely dissolved, about 2 minutes. Add ice cubes to chill the mixture quickly, stirring until the ice is melted.
Combine and Chill
- Gently fold the drained mandarin oranges into the chilled jello mixture. Pour half of the jello mixture into a 9x13 inch dish, then carefully spread the creamy layer over it.
Final Assembly and Set
- Pour the remaining jello mixture over the creamy layer, ensuring it is evenly distributed. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until the salad is completely set and firm before serving.
Notes
For best results, make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature to ensure a smooth creamy layer. You can also garnish with extra mandarin orange slices or a dollop of Cool Whip before serving.
