Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Warm milk
  • ¼ cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 Egg
Topping (Optional)
  • Egg wash (1 egg yolk beaten with 1 tbsp water)
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the melted butter and egg to the yeast mixture and whisk until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour and salt, then gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
Kneading and First Rise
  1. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  2. Lightly grease a large bowl, place the dough in it, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Second Rise
  1. Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces, then shape each piece into a smooth ball.
  2. Place the shaped buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover them with a clean kitchen towel, and let them rise for another 20 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  3. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Cooling
  1. Transfer the baked buns to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.

Notes

For extra soft buns, try adding 1 tablespoon of milk powder to the dry ingredients. You can also make these buns ahead of time and freeze them after they are fully cooled. Simply thaw at room temperature before serving or reheating in a warm oven for a few minutes.
