Ingredients

Main Dough
  • 2.5 cups Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoons Active Dry Yeast
  • 0.5 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Salt
  • 0.25 cups Vegetable Oil
  • 6 cups All-Purpose Flour more as needed

Equipment

  • Large bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Loaf pans (3 total, 9x5 inch each)
  • Wire rack

Method

Making the Dough
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in salt and vegetable oil into the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add 3 cups of flour, mixing until smooth, then add remaining flour slowly, kneading until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 6-8 minutes until it's elastic and smooth.
First Rise
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning once to coat, then cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
Shaping and Second Rise
  1. Gently punch down the risen dough, divide it into three equal pieces, and shape each piece into a loaf.
  2. Place shaped loaves into greased 9x5 inch loaf pans, cover, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes or until nearly doubled.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the last 15 minutes of the second rise.
  2. Bake the loaves for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and they sound hollow when tapped.
  3. Remove from pans immediately and cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

Adjust flour amount as needed; the dough should be soft and slightly sticky but manageable. For extra flavor, brush the tops of the loaves with melted butter immediately after baking.
