Preparation
- Combine heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Whisk until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to ensure it is thoroughly chilled.
Churning
- Pour the chilled mixture into the ice cream maker freezer bowl. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions, which typically takes 20-25 minutes, until the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency.
Freezing
- Transfer the soft ice cream to an airtight container. Freeze for at least 2-3 hours, or until it reaches your desired firmness, before serving.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, you can add half of a vanilla bean pod, scraped, to the mixture before chilling and then remove it before churning. Ensure your ice cream maker bowl is properly frozen (usually 24 hours) for the best results.
